Explore slow dancing through a Balboa lens. We’ll cover core aesthetics that differentiate it from other styles, key partner connection points, and some vocabulary to get you moving.

Over-rotated Swingouts with Elaine & Stefan

Master one of the most stylish moves in Slow Lindy - the over-rotated swingout!

Prerequisites: This class is for experienced dancers. Must be proficient in swingouts and pivots.

Foundations of Dancing - Individual with Tim & Jo

Everything you need to know about how to get started on your dance journey! The Music, the Movement, and the Cultural Connection. The warmup will contain general drills to improve coordination (both for your feet and entire body) which will be applied to 4 of the most common rhythmical patterns in jazz.

Weider's Hall

Raftery-Based Slow Bal with Dan & Cara

This class will start from learning the Dean and Nancy Raftery basic, and then use it as the basis for our own variations. Our aim is to explore new ideas rooted in the style of one of the dance elders.

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of Balboa. Leather soled or slippery soled shoes will make your life easier.

Footwork & Slides for Slow Lindy with Elaine & Stefan

Add texture to your Slow Lindy with intricate footwork variations and fancy slides.

Prerequisites: Must be comfortable social dancing for a full evening. Please bring leather or suede bottom shoes (socks will do in a pinch).

Foundations of Dancing - Partnership with Tim & Jo

After learning how to connect to the music, your movement, and the power of the dance, we'll connect more deeply with the music and the partnership. This is a 2-part class. If you're planning on attending this one, we'll need to see you in the earlier class.

Flowing Through Styles with Dan & Cara

What makes movement feel like Balboa, Blues, or Lindy Hop? In this class we'll explore the aesthetics that make these dances feel distinct and how we can change our mechanics to flow between them within a dance, whether or not the moves themselves change.

Prerequisites: Comfort with Balboa, Blues, and Lindy Hop social dancing. Be prepared for a fast paced class as we'll be quickly moving through concepts and movements.

Refine your Lindy basics for slower tempos! We'll explore individual quality of movement, partner dynamics, and arm stylings to make your dancing flow.

Prerequisites: Ability to dance basic 6 and 8 count Lindy figures.

Momentum and Turns: Let's Go for a Ride with Tim & Jo

We'll explore momentum and weight placement for rapid rotational moves. We will talk about weight placement, followers choice, and leaders responsibility in these movements.

Prerequisites: High comfort level in rotational movements like pivots or lindy circles.

Jazz Foxtrot with Annabel & Michael

Learn a simple flowing box step and enjoy endless versatility through variations in travel, simple rhythm changes, and individual textures.

Intentional Musical Choices with Dan & Cara

There’s a whole lot of slow music, so you need a lot of tools to dance musically. We’ll listen closely through a range of songs to understand the elements that affect our dance choices, and what we can physically do about it.

Prerequisites: Be willing to listen and dance to music.

Add groovy slow solo moves to your Lindy to bring extra flavor into your dancing.

Prerequisites: Ability to dance basic 6 and 8 count Lindy figures.

Understanding the Music with Michael Quisao

You've got a whole weekend to learn about dancing to slow jazz, but what about the music itself? Fret not! DJ Michael Quisao is here to facilitate a discussion about what slow jazz is, where it fits into our understanding of a social event, and what kind of songs can be appropriate for the dance moves you've learned this weekend. No worries if you do not DJ - this discussion is open to everyone and will be beneficial regardless of your dance skill or familiarity with a wide variety of songs.

This class explores moves that use momentum and redirections that break us out of closed position but keep it feeling like Balboa.

Frankly, Tim is brilliant on piano and is going to change how you hear music with this class. We'll talk layers, lyrics, phrasing, and how to make gorgeous choices in your social dancing.

Prerequisites: An appreciation of good music is all you need, but you'll get the most out of this class if you are comfortable with more than the basics and are working on your connection to the music.

There are many ways to pulse and groove to blues music. We’ll explore the range of options, how it can be similar or independent from your partner, and the interaction when layering different grooves over movements.

Partner dance is a conversation—and both voices matter! In this class, we’ll spotlight bold, follow-initiated moves and eye-catching tricks to add some wow-factor to your social dancing.

Prerequisites: This class is for experienced dancers that are ready for high intensity moves and weight sharing.

Dynamic Blues Embrace Connection with Dan & Cara

Different movements ask for different kinds of embrace, and we move through these positions throughout a dance. This class will explore some of those movements: how to make them comfortable and our choices in partnering them.

Prerequisites: Some experience in blues embrace or balboa closed position.

Swing + Tango = Swango with Elaine & Stefan

Swango is our favorite fusion dance! In this class, you’ll learn the sultry moves and signature styling that made this tango-swing blend iconic enough to earn its own name.

Prerequisites: Must be comfortable social dancing for a full evening. Slick shoes recommended.
